Knesset Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs Committee held a Hearing on the Absence of Women in the Leadership of World Jewish Organizations
Why are there no too many women among the leadership of world Jewish organizations?
The Subcommittee for Relations of Israel with World Jewish Communities of the Knesset Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs Committee hold a meeting this past Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 to discuss the position of women in leadership of Jewish organizations around the world.
The meeting was initiated by the Chair of the Subcommittee, MK Dr. Einat Wilf (Haatzma`ut). According to MK Wilf, Jewish activists around the world have sadly noted that “there are more Jewish women in the United States Supreme Court than in the leadership of major Jewish federations”. She noted that Jewish organizations around the world still represent the Jewish world in various forums, mostly without female representation. MK Wilf added that at this time when the question of women’s status within Judaism is being widely debated it is also important to examine the status of women in non religious Jewish institutions. This meeting, said Wilf, was intended to raise awareness to the issue and discuss how to change the situation.
