Elbit Seals Deals Worth Over $500 million

Israeli defense-electronics company Elbit Systems (ESLT) announced two major defense contracts last week, totaling over half of a billion US dollars.

The company announced a $240 million deal with an African country to supply it with various weapons systems over the course of two years. The deal includes the sale of the multi-spectral infrared countermeasure (MUSIC) system, which protects aircraft against attacks, using lasers to divert missiles.

The second deal announced this week is one with a Pacific Asian country, in which the company announced that it agreed to supply them with command and control systems to the tune of $300 million.

‘We are proud to be selected to provide a command and control solution, which is based on Elbit Systems cutting-edge technologies and operational experience,’ said Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems, ‘We are considered as one of the world’s leaders in the command and control field and we trust that other customers will follow this Asia-Pacific customer,’ he added.

The company’s announcements were released amidst growing calls in Israel for more transparency when it comes to the identity of the countries with which Israel’s defense contractors are doing business.

The company refused to disclose the identity of both countries.
